*Assistant Deputy Clerk/Records Retention Technician

The purpose of this job is to provide administrative, financial and secretarial assistance in maintaining records housed for the Telfair County Board of Commissioners. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing complete support and assistance to the County Clerk, Deputy Clerk and Commissioners as requested; and coordinating, collaborating and assisting in the Commission office; and performing tasks as assigned.

Major Duties: Drafts follow-up correspondence to notify departments, companies, and/or individuals of actions approved by the Board of Commissioners, as directed by the County Clerk or Deputy Clerk; assists in keeping up-to-date information on various proprietary subjects as required and answering inquiries by Commissioners, staff and the general public; assists in coordinating employee health-related seminars as requested; performs other related administrative work as directed; answers telephone; greets visitors; assists with mail processes; and assists public in locating information; processes and monitors solid waste payments to ensure accuracy and timeliness; provides information and assistance, as needed; codes solid waste payment documents; maintains office inventory files; performs related duties as directed; assists and coordinates with solid waste billing and receivables, trash container requests from the public, and coordinates and disseminates information to solid waste contractor; maintains archived and inactive records as directed; maintains, retrieves, accesses, compiles, and maintains destruction records; performs the destruction of records as assigned by the County Clerk; coordinates/performs the movement of records to the records storage locations for the Commission office; and coordinates the destruction of outdated materials and keeps track of charged-out materials.

Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with an Associate’s Degree; sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to three years; must be a certified Notary Public and/or have the ability to obtain certification; must be willing to attend and successfully complete courses, as directed, and obtain certification as a County Clerk during employment.

*Code Enforcement Officer

The purpose of this job is to investigate alleged violations of county ordinances and state law reported by other county departments and the general public. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, enforcing compliance with codes and ordinances, performing on-site inspections and investigations, issuing citations, and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Major Duties: conducts initial surveys of buildings, structures, and land to determine if they are substandard and in violation of applicable codes and ordinances; inspects existing structures for violations of safety and sanitation regulations, or when adopted codes and ordinances require an inspection; maintains files of inspections, re-inspections, consultations, phone conversations, inspection notes, and other required reports; compiles status reports on specific assignments as requested; inputs inspection reports, investigation notes, and consultation data into computer database; Issues citations for code violations; Responds to telephone inquiries from citizens, builders, owners, utilities, public officials, and property managers related to code interpretations and enforcement; participates in professional development activities; Operates testing equipment; maintains data as required by regulations and management reports; and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; one year experience in code compliance or enforcement required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position; must possess a valid driver's license; must be able to complete the curriculum required for the Georgia Association of Code Enforcement (GACE) Certification as a Code Enforcement Officer.
