Winners will be announced at the Annual Chamber Banquet on February 24, 2022
As many of you know, the Annual Banquet of the Chamber has been canceled for this year. While the chamber regrets having to cancel the banquet, the board members feel that it is in the best interest of everyone’s safety and health to do so. Just as many of the events of our community have been postponed or scaled down, so has the banquet been canceled with hopes that next year we will again be able to have the annual banquet to celebrate our chamber and community.
While the banquet may have been canceled, activities around the community continue. A very important part of the banquet in the past has been the recognition of outstanding people and businesses in our community. This year the board members feel there has been an outstanding organization that needs to be recognized for their efforts to assist our community during this time of the national and worldwide pandemic that has caused our life to be so severely altered.
This organization has worked tirelessly serving the people of our community. They have worked during freezing weather, rain, and at a risk to their own lives. They have worked under deplorable conditions to protect the people of our community. This organization is the Telfair County Health Department. The employees of the health department are to be commended for the service they have provided not only for our community but also in lending assistance to neighboring counties. The vaccination process for Telfair County has been the smoothest operation of any county around. There are horror stories of residents of other counties not being able to get an appointment for a vaccine and elderly people having to get some other person kind enough, with knowledge to “Go On Line” to make an appointment. Our health department made themselves available to the public through their personal social media accounts, by answering phone calls and by talking to people when they saw them in person. They did it with a smile on their face and a warm heart. It was a comfort to the residents of our community to be able to communicate with a person; and more than that, with a person they knew. The Telfair County Health Department has been a rock for Telfair County in a storm of epic portions.
The Telfair County Chamber of Commerce along with the citizens of Telfair County would like to commend the Employees of The Telfair County Health Department for a job WELL DONE. To recognize their efforts, the Chamber presented to the staff of the Telfair County Health Department with a 2021 Telfair County Business of the Year plaque on Friday, March 27, 2021.
